DISSERTATION WORKSHOP FOR DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS

Prior to the Annual Conference of the Finnish Literary Research Society, a dissertation workshop for PhD researchers is organized on May 20, 2025. The workshop is aimed at PhD researchers in the fields of literary and writing studies. In the workshop, PhD researchers are expected to give brief presentations on their dissertations and will receive feedback from the attending professors and other participants. The participants are selected based on their abstracts and letters of introduction.
The abstract (250-300 words) is expected to present, for example, an idea or a problem that is central to the applicant’s research. The text that is presented in the workshop can be, for example, the manuscript for an article, a chapter in a dissertation, or a research plan. The maximum length of the text is 10 pages + the disposition of the dissertation. The letter of introduction (max 500 words) will provide a short description of the applicant and the stage of their research. The applicant should also indicate why participating in the workshop would be beneficial for them. The letter of introduction should be no longer than one page. The applicant’s contact information and the names of the dissertation’s supervisors should be included in the application as well.
The abstracts and letters of introduction should be submitted using this form (deadline 8 March 2026): https://forms.gle/ZBhN3iown6bSsFGu5
Those accepted for the workshop are requested to submit their final text by the end of April.  We advise the dissertation workshop applicants to also submit a presentation proposal to the conference since the number of workshop participants is limited. The event is organized by School of Humanities and Literature at the University of Oulu and the Finnish Literary Research Society. Contact: kuisma.korhonen[at]oulu.fi
